Epocor Xeriscape Rebate, Maricopa County, Arizona
Epcor has announced a xeriscape rebate program for Arizona homeowners (and HOAs). Epcor's rebate program rewards customers who replace grass with native or drought-tolerant plants. For anyone unfamiliar with xeriscaping, it involves planting drought-resistant plants (eliminating or reducing the need for irrigation).
The Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona (WIFA) and Epcor offer credits to Maricopa County residents who remove grass and replace it with low-usage landscaping. Epcor customers who qualify will receive a one-time credit of $3 per square foot on their water bill.
To be eligible, you must complete a pre-approval application (before making any landscaping changes). If your application is approved, Epcor will notify you. Then, follow the directions on Epcor's website on how to proceed.
The rebate program will run on a first come, first served basis until funding runs out.
Xeriscape Rebate, City of Surprise, Arizona
The City of Surprise offers three different rebates to homeowners (within the city limits) to encourage water conservation. Epcor and El Mirage Water customers can apply for the rebates available through May 2026. All rebate programs are on a first-come, first-serve basis and will end when funding has been depleted or the application deadline has passed. Full eligibility requirements.
WaterSense labeled irrigation controller rebate.
Customers who install a WaterSense irrigation controller can receive a rebate of up to $125.
Single-family new home xeriscape landscape installation.
Get a $400 rebate for installing a xeriscape. You're eligible if you purchased a home within the past two years from the date you apply!
Single-family turf removal rebate.
Receive $2 per sq. ft. (up to $2,000) to remove the grass in your yard. The application deadline for this rebate is April 15, 2026.
HOA, commercial, and multifamily turf removal rebates.
This rebate is only available to HOAs and commercial customers. Receive up to $12,000 to remove turf at $2 per square foot.
Xeriscape Rebate, Los Angeles, California
The Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, in partnership with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), offers rebates for "transforming existing lawn into a sustainable, low water use landscape." New landscapes must consist of plants appropriate for the LA climate.
LA residential customers can receive up to $25,000 for projects up to 5,000 sq ft. Projects as small as 250 sq ft can receive $5 per sq ft.
Commercial or Multi-family customers are eligible for rebates up to $914.760. Rebates range from $3 to $5 per sq. foot.
No end date is mentioned, so I assume this is an ongoing program, as it should be!
The City of San Diego
Through the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, San Diego offers six different rebate programs to homeowners who conserve water and a commercial turf rebate replacement rebate for businesses.
